Things to do on a Nairobi Safari

Thinking of things to do on a Nairobi Safari ?  here are a few things you can do .

Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya. It is often referred as the City in the Sun. Being the capital city, Nairobi has its own attraction sites and special places to visit. If you are visiting Kenya on a short safari or a business safari with meetings only in Nairobi, you do not have to worry because there are enough places to visit and things to do to give you that Kenyan safari experience.

It is important that you know the things to do in Nairobi beforehand so that you can visit prepared. A Nairobi Safari will be exciting; No long safaris and all the roads in the capital are smooth. Check out the list below.

A visit to Nairobi National Museum

Nairobi National Museum

A visit to Nairobi National Park

A Nairobi National Park visit is a must. The National Park is located 7Km from the capital city and is easily accessible. At the Nairobi National Park you will see animals like cheetahs, leopard, lions, gazelles and about 400 bird species among others. While you are at it, you will visit The DavidSheldrick Wildlife Trust; a home for orphaned elephants which is located inside the park. There’s also a ‘smaller’ wildebeest migration that takes place in the park every year between July and August.

A visit to the Giraffe Manor

The Giraffe manor is located in Langata – one of the City suburbs. During your stay here, you will dine with Giraffe as the exclusive Hotel also doubles as a conservation center for the endangered Rothschild / Baringo / White Socked giraffe. Tourists who visit the manor feed the giraffes and if you are lucky enough, you will get a giraffe kiss! You will also take up-close photos with the giraffes.

A visit to the Karen Blixen Museum

The Karen Blixen Museum, named after the Danish Author; Karen Blixen who wrote the book Out of Africa is another must do thing while in Nairobi. The museum which is located in Karen is a colonial site and has beautiful gardens to relax in. There is also a lot to see inside the museum.

A Visit to Kibera

Kibera is the largest slum in the world. You might be wondering why this is in the list but after visiting, you will be grateful I included it. In Kibera, there are several youths willing to take you around the slum. You will learn a lot and probably have a different perspective about life by the end of your visit. You will also see a lot of projects initiated by the talented Kibera youths and women. It is a place worth visiting.

A visit to the Maasai Market

This is the one place that almost all tourists do not miss to visit. The Maasai Market is located in the city center. The Maasai people have a rich culture and the market is a pure display of this culture. You will find a lot of women and men doing bead work and art. They make bangles, necklaces, earrings, ceramic pots and also make Maasai Shukas. You can buy these things from them at agreed prices.
