Visit Haller Park
If you are into animal reservation, a visit to Haller Park is a must. The park previously known as Bamburi Nature Trail was initiated in 1971 by one Dr. Rene as a nature reservation park. The idea was to create a balanced ecosystem where each park member needed each other for existence. At Haller Park you will find a beautiful man-made forest, Wildlife Park and a fish farm. Some of the animals found here are zebras, giraffes, Cape buffalo, hippos and waterbucks. The park is also home to about 160 bird species which include pelicans, storks and weaverbirds among others.
Diving and snorkeling
Tourists from all over the world visit Mombasa for diving and snorkeling at the Mombasa Marine Park. It is one of the most fun activities that you can enjoy on a Mombasa safari. Those not good at diving or afraid of water can ride in glass-bottom boats to enjoy the beautiful view of marine life as well.
Take a photo by the Mombasa Tusks
How will they know you visited Mombasa if you don’t take a photo by the Mombasa Tusks! The Mombasa Tusks are famous for being ‘Mombasa’s landmarks’. The tusks found at the heart of Mombasa city were built in 1952 when Queen Elizabeth visited the city. You do not have to pay to take photos unless you are doing it on a professional level in which case you have to talk to the city council.
Visit the Mombasa Go-Kart center
If you are on a Mombasa safari together with your kids, the Mombasa go-kart center is the perfect place for your kids. Kids enjoy kids’ games on bouncing castles, go-karts and the open playground. They can also play computer games in the game shops found at the Center.
Visit Shimba Hills National Reserve
Enjoy a game drive or guided game walk in Shimba Hills National Reserve located 33 KM from the city of Mombasa. You will also enjoy beautiful nature picnics in the reserve’s forest. Animals likely to be spotted at the reserve are elephants, antelopes, leopards and a variety of bird species.
Visit Gedi Ruins
Gedi Ruins comprises of an unearthed palace, mosque and tombs that re the remains of Gedi Town. Gedi Town was an ancient Arab town which is now replaced by old ruined buildings with a touch or Swahili and Spanish designs. If you love history, this would be worth visiting during your Mombasa trip.
Visit Arabu-Sokoke Forest
This is one of the remaining indigenous forests in coast. It is home to some rare species of birds, amphibians, butterflies and plants. There are about 260 bird species at this forest. It is a good spot for relaxed picnics.
Visit Swahili restaurants
There is no way you’ll leave Mombasa without visiting its restaurants that offer traditional Swahili cuisines. The coastal people are popularly known for being some of the best cooks in Kenya by utilizing local spices. A Swahili dish will leave you begging for more food. They are delicious with a memorable taste and smell.
